Montego Bay-Wednesday

We left the Myers' house at 8:30 yesterday and took the long route to the airport not only to avoid tolls but to see The Pyramid House which is this really neat pyramid-shaped house near Gurnee with a huge King Tut outside and hieroglyphic-engraved walls and a moat. As if that wasn't enough, we encountered almost no lines at the airport. Then, our flight was delayed for an hour, but that gave us time to start coloring and grab lunch. We also got to observe Roger when in Rogerland, which happens when he is watching a really good episode of Dr. Who. On the plane we had to wait a bit before we took off, and there was an unhappy child, who frankly, screeched her head off for about 45 minutes. In the air though, she was fine. We finally convinced David to color his own "Princess Charming" coloring page, which promptly had a goatee. Surprisingly, Roger did not need to be asked twice.

In Atlanta, Kellie made a profit of thirty-two cents by searching the floors, and David and I enjoyed a snack from a little place called Arby's. You may have heard of it. We had an excellent takeoff, with a storm approaching and plenty of turbulence right off the bat. And then it was smooth flying all the way to Jamaica. We got in to the Gloriana Hotel at about nine, and all of us interns met. There are now eleven, with Leisha, who had some flight conflicts. There is Dick, Roger, Josh, David, Brad, Larry, me, Kellie, Amy, and Chris. We will also have Karra arriving next week. Tonight we are expecting our first team, which is the only team we will have until next week, so we will all be staying together, for which I am really grateful. Next week, we will be splitting up for three different teams, with intern arrangements based on what the teams are lacking, such as a band or sound board people.

Right now we are just hanging out at the Gloriana waiting for the team to arrive and getting to know each other. It's an ok place, and Dick has been coming here for years, so the owner knows well what we are up to. She is kind of obnoxious at times, very much "all over" us, and wanting to know all of our details before we know them ourselves. She also overcharges us, but that's just the way things are. Last night she gave Dick a big kiss on the cheek, then went in for the other. He made a joke that they give three kisses in Poland and that was all the encouragement she needed.

My main job will be to help with writing program schedules and training team members to do the same, which are crucial to everyone being on the same page. I may also handle some of the finances. David will likely be helping with the lifting and doing sound board. It looks as though we will be in several schools this year, as well as some orphanages, neither of which we were able to go to last year. It is Kellie's, David's, and my first year as interns, so we are just training with the former interns. I'll try to keep you posted on every day's events, as well as maybe having some other team members and interns adding in some of their cool stories.
